While the idea of working from home in the land of virtualness does initially make most people all warm and fuzzy inside, it soon dissipates and reality hits when you have to actually rely solely on your own self-motivation to smash the day ahead, and isn’t assisted by the fact that you are battling inner demons regarding whether or not wearing a respectable clothing is necessary.
Before I completely scare you off OR encourage you to run out and purchase some cloud-based software and a new set of PJ’s, let us consider the following as a sort of Foreword…
It is not unusual for organisations to be unfamiliar with the term ‘Virtual Office’ and what that entails. In some instances, this is for good reason given that there are industries that will never require such a thing. However, virtual work is something that can be taken on by all companies in different capacities given that an effective business calls for an approach that does not add more noise, rather provides a clear line of sight from project inception to completion – where a project can be anything from data entry through to on-boarding a new employee.
Being a ‘Virtual Office’ allows businesses to remove the chaos that is the traditional work environment, and gives self-motivated employees a space to thrive, be effective and efficient. A successful ‘Virtual Office’ works on the premise that a team, which is empowered and engaged and who have an aligned journey and culture will give the ultimate performance. This involves aligning the company and team to organisational strategy, business value and key prioritising factors.
This is the beginning of what I would like to call a continuous improvement / experiment / work in progress or simply just a catalyst for focused discussion and potential action around Virtual Office’s. I want to include topics that, from experience, should be considered prior to and following on from starting a ‘Virtual Office’ amongst many other things …maybe it will be a guide to help or somewhere to share thoughts ..to be honest I need just as much assistance as the next person! LET US HELP ONE-ANOTHER SHALL WE!
