There are days when I am so overwhelmed by the rapid pace that things are moving and changing. I know that is a pretty common thing to say but it doesn’t make it any less true.
If you’re not adapting and innovating, you’re getting left behind. Having a plan as to how to ‘keep up’ is the only way I can deal with it.
What works for me………
– setting myself a goal to read / learn something new each week/month (this can be done through online – free – courses; blogs; articles)
– writing a blog post fortnightly or monthly
– meeting with new people (like-minded) – as often as possible
– making a commitment to improve something within the team I am working (as regularly as possible)
The above gives me measurable, and realistic targets. It is a wonderful when we can then share something new with people in our networks. It is also a wonderful thing to be able to improve yourself as well as other people’s work experience – no matter how large or small.
This all works for personal AND business situations. I think business is obviously in a different realm – with significant crossover nonetheless! I think in business we tend to believe that because of change it all means complexity when, in fact, it is quite the opposite. We over complicate things and that adds to the anxiety that we’re falling behind. This is a two edged sword, as well because if we don’t have a plan of attack it – we WILL fall behind.
Subscribing to blogs, following Facebook pages and information groups etc. is an awesome way to be automatically included in the latest and greats tips and tricks. It can also open doors to other things as well . By being on a subscription list I found out that there was a group meeting every two months on a particular topic I was interested in knowing more about. I am now about of the group and attend the meetings, have met amazing contacts and have expanded my network. BAM! This made me happy . . .
